10 Tips to Handle Wedding Anxiety

A wedding day is said to be the happiest day of a couple’s life. You are surrounded by all of your family and friends, and all eyes are on you! They are there to love you and want to celebrate your big day, but it can be anxiety-ridden. If you know you will probably be overwhelmed, there are a few things you can do to help counteract it.

  1. Schedule Breaks - we always make sure couples have scheduled time blocks that they get to sit quietly and eat or spend time with their new spouse. A lot happens on that day, and we want to make sure that you can soak it in and enjoy it!

  2. Cut down the guest list - the more intimate the better. Many are opting for a 30-40 person get together over a 300 guest shindig. It will automatically reduce stress to have just your closest family and friends at your wedding.

  3. HAVE A FIRST LOOK - I will scream this from the heavens! It makes your day run so much smoother. If you don’t have one, you won’t see your person for 2/3rds of your day, and when you do see them it will be nonstop pictures and dancing until then end of the night. This is the best day of your life, and your soon to be spouse is generally your best friend and the person you run to when you are happy or anxious, so make sure they are there with you.

  4. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse - make sure you give yourself plenty of time during your rehearsal to straighten out the kinks and feel confident about how the day will go.

  5. Have a mimosa - or whatever drink helps you. Tea or coffee can be a great option if you aren’t much of a drinker. Just be sure to stay hydrated and keep any alcohol drinking to a minimum. You want to enjoy your day, but also remember it!

  6. EAT SOME FOOD WOMAN - I hear all the time that you don’t want to eat that day to look your best in the dress. Girl, you look amazing, and that dress is fitted like a glove. A sandwich isn’t going to give you a food baby, but not eating generally leaves you cranky, possibly dizzy, and can make anxiety worse.

  7. Pray, meditate, listen to music, do yoga, punch a punching bag - however you work out stress, take a minute and do it!

  8. Dress to impress yourself - find a dress and shoes that fit your style and make you feel like one hot momma in the mirror. If you never wear heels, do not shove your foot in a strappy pair for 10 hours. Find a pair of ballet flats, cute keds, or a chunky heel with some support if you’re feeling dangerous!

  9. Elope and party - many are opting for an intimate eloped then throwing a reception to celebrate with family and friends. It can take a lot of the stress out of it. It tones some of the formality down, and you already got the hard part over. The only thing left is the party!

  10. Hire a planner - it may sound a little self serving, but we have been there with so many sweet couples. We know how to make your day run smoothly, how to plan for things that can make your anxiety worse, and how to make sure your only concern is what color lipstick you want to wear on your big day!
