One of my favorite topics, wedding registries.
I get so many questions about these. Do I have to make one? Do I need to have multiple ones? Can’t I just ask for money…etc?
Let’s get one thing straight, you can do anything you want. But I do try to guide you in a way that won’t tick off those older relatives (you know the ones). So here is my advice. Make one at a store like Target or Amazon so that if you hate what Aunt Sue gets you, return it and buy something you want! But let’s get down to brass tacks. Here are some rules of thumb!
When to Register
We recommend starting your registry as soon as you are engaged! Check back in on your registries from time to time throughout your engagement so that guests who check your registry later in the process still have a nice selection of gifts to choose from. Don't forget to include your registry information and links on your wedding website once that is up and running!
Types of Registries
There are so many options when it comes to registering for gifts. Most of your favorite big box stores, such as Target, West Elm, Crate & Barrel and Nieman Marcus offer registries, but if you're more into adventures and experiences, there are registries for those as well! You can also ask guests to donate to your favorite charities.
How do I Tell People about the Registries
DO NOT PUT THE INFORMATION ON ANY OF YOUR INVITATIONS. There are two acceptable ways to get the word out about your registries. Word of mouth or much easier is on your wedding website. And add your URL to your rsvp card or save the dates.
Ok, ok I’m going to make a registry and NOT put it on my invitations.
